Vic Roads Specifications
Review and update of a number of Standards
In recent discussions with Graeme Newman of VicRoads-GeoPave, it was related that VicRoads has been embarking the review and update of a number of its standard sections which are incorporated into current VicRoads contract specifications.
The primary aim of this review and update is to ensure that there is consistency in the requirements between similar sections and that the sections reflect current technology often in use.
The standard section review has also included an update of the guide (green) notes in some instances.
Some of these updates will be of interest to CMPA members, in particular, the review of the 800 series standard sections.
To date, Standard Sections 812 (Crushed Rock for Base and Subbase Pavement) and 820 (Recycled Crushed Concrete for Pavement Sub-base and Light Duty Base) have been updated and were released in late July 2006.
Standard Sections 811 (Gravel, Sand and Soft or Ripped Rock for Base and Sub-base Pavement), 304 (Flexible Pavement Construction), Standard Section 818 (Crushed Scoria for Base and Sub-base Pavement) and Code of Practice 500.00 (Quarry Investigations) are in the process of being reviewed and are currently programmed for release in February 2007.
Further reviews of Standard Section 815 (Cementitiously Treated Crushed Rock for Sub-base Pavement) and possibly Standard Section 801(Source Rock for Production of Crushed Rock and Aggregates) are planned for the first half of 2007.
The review of Standard Section 801 would likely incorporate the inclusion of the requirements for “excavation stone” (often sourced from subdivisional works in Melbourne’s north and west) and sub-base materials occasionally sourced onsite in VicRoads projects.
VicRoads welcomes industry comment on issues and changes to updated standard sections and the CMPA will be making comment accordingly.
Please contact the CMPA if you would like to participate in the review of these documents.
