The second CMPA Annual General Meeting is being held on July 26 at William Adams, Laverton. The AGM starts at 6pm with a tour of William Adams.

The agenda includes a review of the year, an opportunity for questions, and of course, lots of opportunities to meet and mingle. There will also be entertainment provided, through a magician and a caricaturist.  The cost is $55 a head which includes dinner.

RSVPs were due on July 12, but if you haven’t managed to do so yet, there still may be time to sneak in. Phone the CMPA Secretariat on 03 9745 2132.

Membership Renewal

You will soon receive your membership renewal notices.  All queries relating to memberships are to be directed to the CMPA Secretariat.

The CMPA represents a broad spectrum of those involved in construction material processing businesses engaged in the extracting processing or otherwise working in hard rock, gravel, sand, masonry, clay, lime, soil, gypsum or recycling; industry consultants, industry suppliers and any industry worker.

Our charter is to:

  • Represent members interests to Government & others
  • Assist delivering cost savings to its members
  • Aid members in complying with their legal obligations
  • Foster unity, & cooperation between members & others
  • Act as a resource and provide support to members
  • Develop standardised documentation and systems of business for use by its members and others

The CMPA inception resulted from conversations with numerous owners of capital who were disillusioned with the industries direction, that regulatory requirements were either unattainable or could not be complied to, that owners were unaware of the options or support mechanisms available and that they had lost their identity and dignity. The initial meeting was held on September 6 1999 with the momentum of a second meeting being held a month later on October 15 at which around 40 people attended from throughout the state.

Since the incorporation of the CMPA, there have been many works carried out including:

  • Bonds
  • Education
  • Box Iron Bark
  • Addressing members concerns
  • Input into Regulatory & Reference Manuals
  • Benchmarking & Generic Chart of Accounts
  • External Financial Support

We look forward to another proactive 12 months. To be a part of it, please ensure your membership renewals are sent in.

Quarry Managers Advisory Panel

The CMPA’s nominations for the Quarry Managers Advisory Panel have been accepted. The representatives are Alan Wilkins with Rod North and Kevin Donahue being proxies.

Mark Halliday joins CMPA

Please welcome Mark Halliday who joined the CMPA in May on an 18 month contract as Document Officer.

Mark completed a Bachelor Environmental Engineering (minor in Civil Engineering) degree last year at RMIT University.

A native Tasmanian, Mark came to the mainland a few years ago, transferring from a Bachelor Engineering program at the University of Tasmania.

His background is diverse – including helping run cattle on 200 acres on the family farm, and spending a year in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea when he was a youngster.

Now Mark has a keen interest in the mining and extractives industry, particularly in the area of land rehabilitation.

His appointment to the CMPA is his first since graduating, and we wish him every success.
