RECORD RESULTS FOR EMPLOYEES

By on July 3, 2003

The Work Record Book, a recording method for maintaining a database of the knowledge and skills learnt through education and on the job training, is to be the latest publication developed by the CMPA.

Due for release in March, this book is targeted at industry employees.  Along with keeping an accurate record of the employees work history, it is envisaged that the Work Record Book be used to support applications for employment.

In this way prospective employees can give their future employers an accurate understanding of the extent of the work done in previous positions.   In an education system centred on competency based learning, the Work Record Book could be used to support applications for Recognition of Prior Learning and to support entry into training.

It is expected that the value gained from the book will be proportional to the effort applied by both employee and employer in completing the book on a regular basis.   Acting like an official journal, entries ranging from an employee’s ability to deal with conflict in the work place to the daily tasks carried out by the employee should be entered to accurately represent the employee.

Although primarily aimed at employees the Work Record Book has some valuable side effects for the employer.  With the consent of the employee its use could be extended to compliment the training of new employees.

The Work Record  Book should be used to record work done; tasks, training, skills and involvement in committees.
